Ingredients

Potatoes
  • 4 medium Russet potatoes peeled and diced
Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Butter unsalted
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Milk whole or 2%
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper to taste

Method

Prepare the Potatoes
  1. Peel and dice the potatoes into uniform pieces.
  2. Place the diced potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
Combine and Serve
  1. Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes and gently stir to combine.
  2. Serve hot, garnished with additional cheese or herbs if desired.
