Ingredients
  

Potatoes
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes peeled and diced
Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk whole or 2%
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese for topping

Method
 

Prepare the Potatoes
  1. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the diced potatoes and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
Combine and Serve
  1. Add the cooked potatoes to the sauce and stir to coat evenly.
  2. Transfer to a serving dish, sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese, and serve warm.
