Ingredients
  

Pasta and Sauce
  • 12 oz Pasta (penne or rigatoni) Cooked according to package instructions
  • 1 lb Ground Italian sausage Mild or spicy based on preference
  • 1 cup Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 can Crushed tomatoes 28 oz can
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp Dried basil
  • 1 tsp Red pepper flakes Optional for heat
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated For serving
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil For sautéing

Method
 

Cooking the Sausage
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
Making the Sauce
  1. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Combining with Pasta
  1. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Once the sauce is ready, add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine, ensuring the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
