Red Velvet Cake

  • 2 8-oz. cream cheese softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
Cheesecake Layer
  • 2 8-oz. cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the cake pans by greasing them with butter and flour.
  2. Prepare the red velvet cake mix according to the box instructions, adding the required ingredients.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, eggs, sour cream, all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, and kosher salt until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter, then blend in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until creamy.
  5. Pour the red velvet batter into the prepared pans and then add the cheesecake layer on top.
  6. Use a knife to swirl the cheesecake batter into the red velvet batter gently.
  7. Bake according to the red velvet cake mix directions, approximately 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool before slicing and serving.
