Ingredients

Marinade
  • 2 lbs flank steak or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 cup orange juice freshly squeezed
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped
Toppings
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 1 cup cilantro chopped
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1 cup avocado sliced

Method

Marinate the Steak
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, lime juice, orange juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and cilantro to create the marinade.
  2. Place the flank steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
Grill the Steak
  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Remove the steak from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off. Discard the marinade.
  3. Grill the steak for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.
  4. Remove from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain.
Serve
  1. Serve the carne asada with diced onion, chopped cilantro, salsa, and avocado on the side. Enjoy in tacos or as a main dish.
