Baked Ziti for a Crowd

Ingredients
  

Pasta
  • 1 pound Ziti pasta Uncooked
Meat Sauce
  • 2 pounds Ground beef Or Italian sausage
  • 1 large Onion Chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 cans Crushed tomatoes 28 ounces each
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
Cheese Mixture
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese Divided
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dried parsley

Method
 

Prepare the Pasta
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Meat Sauce
  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the meat is cooked through. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Combine Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, meat sauce, ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley. Mix well.
Bake
  1. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella cheese.
  2. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serve
  1. Let the baked ziti cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

This dish can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking. Just add an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
